The Mirasol Accessories Collection has been a real joy to design for.
My inspiration for this book came from one single hank of yarn. To see what I could produce from that extra hank of yarn you might have brought for a knitting project but didn't need and were left wondering what to do with it.
Or maybe you see one of the Mirasol Yarns and would like to try it out so buy just one hank. Instead of knitting a tension swatch this book gives ideas and patterns to knit something to keep and treasure or give to a loved one as a precious gift.
I've been talking to many people who would like to knit, either they used to or haven't picked up needles since they were children, but are a little hesitant to start with a garment. These patterns are perfect for them, as they can see a result quicker than a garment and practise all they need to start that first garment project!
The Love Hearts Blanket for the girl was one of my first designs as you only need one hank of each colour, and the result is, even if I say so myself, beautiful. I love the idea that several friends or family members knit with one or two shades each and then they are all sew together to create a blanket made with love.
Most of the accessories use one to three hanks however I have sneaked in a couple of designs that need slightly more than that, like the Nightjar scarf that uses 8 hanks, however because it is knitted in Sulka you only cast on 40 stitches to make this chunky scarf.
It's been amazing over the past few months to see the changes at the Mirasol Boarding House. To me building a house and putting in showers is so basic yet it has made such an enormous difference that has involved so many wonderful people, from the ones who physically built it brick by brick to those that brought the yarn. I have learnt so much from seeing the photographs of changes that have happened and from hearing the stories it's made me feel that my designing is doing something that little bit extra special.
